Testing a holistic model for co-designing and jointly implementing healthy urban green spaces for climate-resilient cities and towns
Urban Green Spaces [UGS] are essential for mitigating the impacts of climate change and strengthening the resilience of cities to environmental challenges. However, current management of these spaces has been insufficient, with little integration between disciplines and limited citizen participation. To respond to this challenge, the Urban Real Green seeks to improve the planning and management of UGSs in the EuroMED region, promoting their climate resilience and maximizing their ecosystem benefits. Through an innovative approach, the project will develop and test a co-design and co-management model in eight (8) UGSs with diverse characteristics, actively involving local authorities, citizens, and other key stakeholders. The main output of the testing is the validated holistic model to co-design and co-implement plans to improve UGS sustainability and maximize their ecosystem services for the cities' climate resilience.
In this context, our Office will undertake an investment project. More specifically, it will undertake the design and implementation of a Tiny Forest in the Municipality of Lakatamia. Tiny Forests are small-scale and densely planted urban forests, consisting of native, native trees and shrubs. Beyond the multiple benefits against climate risks, the goal is to plant, maintain, and upgrade this Tiny Forest in collaboration with the local community (schools, volunteers, businesses, etc.), thus strengthening the sense of contribution and ownership.
