The Plan4NBS in Nicosia project [Plan for Nature-based Solutions in Nicosia] aimed to strengthen the capacity of Nicosia Local Authorities to design and implement Nature Based Solutions [Nature Based Solutions – NBS], which would help them to better utilize, but also upgrade, their Energy and Climate Action Plans.
Although Local Authorities in Cyprus committed to achieving both the 2020 and 2030 energy and climate targets, Nature-Based Solutions are not yet widespread as a tool for climate change adaptation and for the multiple benefits they offer to natural ecosystems and their services. Therefore, actions to empower and mobilize Local Authorities to implement such solutions were supported within the framework of this project. The actions included the exchange of best practices and cost-effective solutions, as well as the organization of capacity building workshops. In addition, 2 pilots in 2 selected Municipalities were implemented during the project - the Pollinator Parks in the Municipalities of Strovolos and Lakatamia.
