Sustainable Mobility is one of the main issues of modern urban and community development, as the need to move is a vital element of our daily life. Beyond the convenience and practicality it offers, the shift to Sustainable Mobility is a central axis for improving well-being and promoting the sustainable development of cities and communities. Cyprus, as a member state of the European Union, adopts its goals and is committed to ensuring sustainable means of transportation, with less greenhouse gas emissions, to protect the environment and ensure the quality of life of citizens. Furthermore, Sustainable Mobility is one of the main factors in tackling Climate Change. Determination and enthusiasm to promote and support Sustainable Mobility are essential ingredients as we can shape cities and suburbs with a positive impact on the environment and promote a prosperous society for future generations.
This Guide has been compiled by the Department of Climate Change and Environment of the Cyprus Energy Office, with the aim of promoting Sustainable Mobility and sustainable development in the cities and communities of Cyprus. The Guide is a source of information and advice on improving mobility at local level, including promoting and encouraging the use of alternative means of transport such as walking, cycling and the bus, as well as limiting the impacts of increasing private vehicle use that characterizes our country today.
The examples and actions that can be implemented by Local Authorities are not exhausted in this specific guide and need constant revision. The Cyprus Energy Office team is available to support Local Authorities, as well as other stakeholders (citizen groups, professionals, etc.) in the design and implementation of solutions that promote Sustainable Mobility.

It is noted that to save resources, the Guide is mostly available online, through the website of the Cyprus Energy Office. A limited number of copies have been prepared using environmentally friendly materials for free distribution at events attended by our Office. The copies were printed with funds from the European Climate Agreement (European Climate Pact).
