The project "Computing Power Goes Green" with the acronym "GO_GREEN" was approved by " Interreg VB Balkan-Mediterranean 2014-2020 " for promotion of green digital transition. It includes the creation of an observatory, evaluation tools, action plans and pilot interventions. The program brings together five countries, Albania, Northern Macedonia, Bulgaria, Cyprus, and Greece as the main partners with a goal to promote the adoption of an integrated approach and framework for the creation of combined green and digital transformation initiatives at national and transnational level. The project will last 24 months (October 2021 – September 2023) with a total budget of 4,3 million euros.
Until recently, the focus of assessing the environmental footprint of an investment by a business or public authority was the energy efficiency of buildings, facilities, and vehicles. Regarding the digital transformation plan of a public or private enterprise, there is no evaluation framework and relevant indicators that would allow the measurement of such initiatives and plans in terms of their environmental / energy footprint. In line with the EU 's goals for a "twin transition", it is urgent to take steps to support a sustainable digital transformation.
Expected results:
- An observatory for the evaluation of the energy efficiency of digital infrastructures (Trend recording, analysis of parameters that affect the green digital transition, creation of a barometer, promotion)
- Comparative evaluation of results between the participating countries
- Preparation of an action plan for a green digital transition (roadmap)
- Good Practices, Certificate, Actions
- Pilot applications
KIOS contribution:
- Support for CCCI and the Cyprus Energy Agency as an external expert
- Contract between contracting authorities
- Involvement for the project actions in Cyprus
